Useful tips for your child's first day at school

Warren Davis

Starting school for the first time is a big step for both the child and the parent if it is their eldest child. It can be an unknown experience for both parties, which will take a while to get adjusted to. They key goal as a parent is to make sure that your child feels as comfortable as possible with the experience and that they don't dread going to school.

Some children will have no bother going to school and will enjoy it, while others will need to be dragged kicking and screaming to school. Here is some advice that will help you to make the process as seamless as possible.

Be well organised

The first day of school is not a time when you want to be late and unorganised. Make sure that you have all of the school uniforms ready and the schoolbag packed the night before. You should always include the child in the decision process, whether that is picking out a lunchbox or choosing a school bag. This will make them more excited about attending school, rather than looking on it with trepidation.

Make sure that your child knows exactly what is in store for them, and emphasise the fun activities they will be doing, as well as the other children that they are going to play with. If they have other friends who are going to the same school, make sure that your child knows this. You should make sure that your child knows the whole routine, what time they go to school and how many times they have recess, etc.

The one thing you don't want to do is to overfill your child's head with information and overly technical stuff as this may overwhelm them.

Know how to leave them at the school

As a parent, you will most likely not have spent a lot of time away from your child if you are a stay at home parent. It can be hard for both parties to separate on the first day at school. You should try your best to hide any of these emotions that you may be experiencing from your child, as you don't want to upset them or make them worried.

Reassure them that you will be there to pick them up on time, and you will be ready to hear all about their first day at school. Let them know that they can talk to the teacher if they have any problems. Ensure that you are there on time when going to pick up your child; you don't want to make them overly anxious.

It is Never too Late to Learn New Skills

Hello, and welcome to my new education and development blog. My name is Chris, and today I would like to tell you my story. At the age of 40, I was ready to give up on life. Although I had done really well at University and had a good career in the banking sector, I just wasn't happy. One day, my wife suggested that I pack it all in and start out in a new direction. She put me in touch with the local education and development school and they really helped me. I retrained as an engineer and I have never been happier. I hope you enjoy my blog.
